New year and a new challenge.

I was interviewed recently by the Bath & Wiltshire Parent Magazine for their feature on family businesses. I spend my days writing content for other entrepreneurs, so reading about myself and the journey to launching Spark & Fly was a new and if I’m honest, a somewhat awkward departure.

However, as much I cringed at reading my words in print, it has been so humbling to receive positive feedback from some of our lovely clients and from other business owners, who are all doing the daily juggle to keep their families and businesses thriving.

Imposter syndrome held me back for too long. With my youngest about to finish primary school, something ignited, and I decided to show her that it’s never too late to try something new and follow your dreams.

The magazine is out now, but you can take a look at the article below. I’d recommend getting your hands on a copy though - there were some really useful top tips from other business owners on how to manage the tightrope walk of family and running your own business.

Not got the time to read the whole article? My biggest tip to staring imposter syndrome square in the eyes, is to speak to yourself as you would your own child.

As parents, when your child is facing a crossroads or is anxious about starting something new, we don’t hesitate to be their champion, to talk logically through the options and to cheer them on at embarrassingly loud volumes. Why then, do we as adults tend to put hurdles in our own pathways and procrastinate our way into a negative dead end?

If I could offer one tip to anyone starting out in business or taking on a new challenge, it’s this:

Conjure up a little self love and BE YOUR OWN CHAMPION!

There’s fewer more memorable ways to teach your children to get up and grab hold of their dreams, than by walking the walk and ditching the talk.

At Spark & Fly, championing other people’s businesses is what we do best.
